Just a FYI for all departments out there. I have been "preaching" this over the last few years in our hazmat operations training class; however, I believe everyone should be reminded of this. It may be a reminder to develop/review standard operating procedures for ethanol based fules and to develop a resource list of those who have inventory of type AR foam.
Currently tankers carrying ethanol fuel may be placarded as 1203, 1987, or as I understand a move is underway by the DOT to assign ethanol based fuels a UN/NA number in the 3300s. You may never know what fuel you are dealing with until you request the bill of lading or MSDS sheet from the driver.
